#dominicstrong
… thinking of a special little dude today.
Actually, I think of him most days. He changed my life in all kinds of ways when I was given the opportunity to document his life on two occasions.
Those two occasions altered my approach to photos. And the reason behind why I take photos for families.
I took these images just after his celebration of life last month.
I took them to save and look at down the road… on dreary day? or a sad day? or a sunny, happy, jump up and kick my feet kind of day. He'd really like the jump up and kick his feet kind of day. I know he would.
These flowers remind me to be thankful for health and never take it for granted. We really just never know.
Pretty flowers have a life cycle too, we all do. It's ok to know this.
These just remind me of that day, it was a day to celebrate life and friends, and prayer, and all things that make us come together.
Dom's life touch so many people in all kinds of ways. You didn't even need to know him to love him.
He wasn't quite 3.
Tomorrow his parents SHAVE THEIR HEADS.
You see, there was an online auction that ended not even a week ago to support EXTRA LIFE, a donation as a part of support for the Alberta Children's hospital.
This auction raised over $8,100!
Extra Life unites thousands of players around the world in a 24 hour gaming marathon to support Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Since its inception in 2008, Extra Life has raised more than $14 million for local CMN hospitals.
Dom's Mom and Dad and a good friend promised to shave their heads if money goals were met.
Goals have indeed been met and blown away… still going strong actually.
The tally right now has surpassed $41,000 for the events that have taken place (including the auction)!
$41,000!!!!!
Dom's Mom promised to shave her head at $20, 000.
CHECK!!
Close family friends (all of them) promised to shave their heads at $30, 000.
CHECK CHECK!!
Dom's Dad promised to wax his back at $45, 000. He is already bald. HA!
Who knows what the tally will be at tomorrow?!
It seriously takes a village to parent.
It has been such an honour to be a part of a generous group of individuals.
I am really proud to be a part of #dominicstrong.
Tomorrow and always, I will be thinking of them all… especially you Dom!!!

Snowy Bliss.
First snowfall of the season.
YUP. Today.
November 2nd.
We made it through a dry Halloween so we can live with it.
This boy is pretty pumped. He's already wanting to know when we ski and went Santa comes.
Priorities of a 5 year old.
November is THANKFULNOVEMBER month.
So much to be thankful for again all year long but for the month of November I blog daily on this site, or over on my SHUTTERBEAN PHOTOGRAPHY blog. Feel free to check it out!

Dear Santa 2014 edition
Hoping the big guy in the red suit gets our letter before heading out on his road trip on Dec 24th.
So fun to see this magic unfold.
Too bad it was minus a million degrees.
Getting to the mailbox took a lot of effort and its only 2 blocks away!
Clearly wee Buggy isn't as impressed.
Maybe next year?

The making of Bat Boy...
Bean loves face painting…
He always has.
It is generally the first stop we make when attending parties.
Today's talent was above most face painting events we've experienced.
Seriously, this was nothing… you should have seen some of the other kids walking around this party.
Impressive!
No matter what, he always asks for a Superhero…
He refused to chat with Santa today but he let some random Artist stick a paint brush near his eyes and blow glitter all over his face.
KIDS!

Pumpkin "Donut" Muffins
Sooooo very yummy!
A perfect recipe to use some of my Halloween pumpkin puree.
Ingredients
2 cups pumpkin puree
2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour (I used 3 cups white flour)
1 1/2 cups sugar (I used 1 cup white, 1/2 cup brown sugar)
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
3 eggs
1/2 cup canola oil
3 tsp pumpkin spice (2 tsp cinnamon + 1 tsp nutmeg + 1 tsp all spice)
Sugar Cinnamon coating
1/2 cup of raw sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
Directions
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and spices together.
Whisk together eggs and pumpkin. Add oil and vanilla. Mix until all incorporated.
Slowly add in dry ingredients one cup at a time and mix until there are no lumps.
Scoop batter into a greased muffin pan and fill each 2/3 full.
Bake for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees.
While the muffins bake, mix sugar and cinnamon together (hello multi tasking!!)
When the muffins are out of the oven and cooled, use a butter knife to loosen them out of the pan.
Toss the muffins one by one in the cinnamon and sugar coating.
ENJOY!!!
(Thank you to BabyBoyBakery for a version of this recipe and the idea. If you don't already follow this blog I'd recommend it… for many reasons).

Lest we forget...
Warm, sunny, humid, happy.
These beauties are free to flourish.
The first image almost looks plastic. They are so bright and bold.
Very thankful for the freedom to explore and enjoy these flowers in a peaceful place.
